Player Data

Aaron Redmond is more famous for being the son of Rodney Redmond, the Kiwi who managed to play one Test match, score a century and a half century and then never again play Test cricket again! This was because of his problems with his contact lenses and Aaron would be hoping he has a better luck at the highest level.

Born in Perth, he began his career as a leg-spinner when he played for Otago, and soon moved up the order to become a front line batsman when he shifted to Canterbury. Despite this start, he still averaged more than forty for most part of the season before he made his Test debut. With a solid and a stable batting style to boot, Redmond was lucky that retirements and injuries hit the Kiwi side at the same time, making it easier for him to make it to the Test side. His debut came in the rain affected Lords Test match against England in 2008, where he did not manage to open his account. This selection incidentally came on the back of a masterly ton against the England Lions, in a first class tour game.

Thankfully, Aaron did not go his dad's way; he did manage to get another look-in as an opener in the second Test between New Zealand and England as well!
