Player Data

Amit Jaggernauth, an off-spinner with a classic action, has been playing the first class cricket since 2002-03 for Trinidad and Tobago, and finally got a call up from the National Team for the home Test series against the Sri Lankans in 2008. However, he did not play in any match in that series, with the team management and the selectors preferring the left arm orthodox spinner Sulieman Benn instead.

Before this, he had played in more than 35 first class matches, picking up more than 150 wickets, but most importantly what seemed to have impressed the selectors is his average of less than 22! However, Jaggernauth seems to be a reluctant List A bowler, possessing an average of more than 50. Fortunately his economy rate at the List A level has been more than satisfactory at around 3.5. This probably prompted the selectors to first select him in the squad against the Sri Lankans, and then gave him his first Test cap against the touring Australian team. His first wicket came in the form of Michael Hussey, when he got one to turn away from the left handed batsman to induce him to edge it into the hands of the slip.

Jaggernauth has also played a couple of seasons of club cricket for the county Sussex.
