Player Data

Ishara Amerasinghe is a right handed pace bowler and a right handed batsman. He is one of the late bloomers in the pace bowling department for the Sri Lankan team. Making his first class debut in the 1997-98 season as a 20 year old, it took him a while coming. It was only in 2007, that he was taken to Abu Dhabi to play his first ODI against Pakistan, and he bowled first change. Although he did not pick up any wickets, he bowled well enough to end with bowling figures of 0/31 in seven overs. Rated by man experts as one of the fastest bowler in the country, the problem he faced earlier was with accuracy. However, with so many years of first class cricket behind him, he has only improved in accuracy, and that coupled with his pace has led to his selection.

He was anyways on the fringe of selection for many years, but injuries stuck at the wrong time. However, after making his ODI debut, he was also chosen to tour Australia in the three-nation series involving the hosts and India. It was finally in the 2008 tour of West Indies that Amerasinghe finally played in his first Test match at Port-of-Spain, but managed to pick only one wicket.
