Andrew Christopher Waller was a regular member of Zimbabwe's one-day side since his debut in the 1987 edition of the World Cup in the match against New Zealand at Hyderabad. He played couple of Tests and 39 ODIs for Zimbabwe's national team after playing first class cricket for the Mashonaland Province in Zimbabwe.
Tall and athletic, he was a handy all round cricketer. Waller was talented with the bat, useful with the ball and particularly brilliant in the field, a trait shared by most Zimbabwe cricketers. Though, he represented Zimbabwe in three World Cups, his Test debut came only at the ripe age of 37, an age where most people are at the twilight of their career. Often described as a 'slogger' which is why he was kept away from the Test side, however, he did show resolve and patience with a half century against England in 1996-97 in one of only two Tests played by him.
After retiring from international cricket in 1996-97, he was appointed the coach of Namibia before being selected as Zimbabwe's coaching manager in 2009. He then joined Midwest Rhinos as head coach before coming to the UK to work at Eastborne College. He took the reigns as Zimbabwe coach on May 1st 2013, replacing Alan Butcher, the post for which he faced stiff competition from Grant Flower and Stephen Mangongo. Waller's son Malcolm plays for the national side. As coach, Waller has shown the desire to make a difference to Zimbabwe cricket and has expressed hopes to take Zimbabwe into the top 8 come 2015 in the ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
