Player Data

With utmost passion and dedication towards cricket, Sunil Joshi battled the most extreme conditions to become an accomplished cricketer in his times.

The orthodox left-arm spinner came into an Indian team already comprised of a world class spinner in the form of Anil Kumble. Though, for most part of his career he played second fiddle to Jumbo. Joshi did manage to turn a few heads with his crafty spin and some clean hitting lower down the order, which took him to 500 runs and 50 wickets in his first-class career. An international call-up followed in the form of a Test debut against England on June 6, 1996, which was co-incidentally his birthday. It was a forgettable debut as a broken finger kept him away from bowling throughout the match. He ended up playing only 15 Tests, but was more active in the ODIs. His best bowling figures of 10-6-6-5 against South Africa was ranked 7th on the Wisden 100 bowling performances once upon a time.

Joshi's last bit of cricket came when he played for the franchise of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2008 and 2009 season of the IPL and was contracted till 2010. He then went to coach Hyderabad. However, it all came to an end in 2012, when the veteran announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing down the curtains on a 16-year old glorious career.
