With their highest successful chase against South Africa, New Zealand clinch Final Spot in Tri Series.
Kane Williamson's 133 run knock helped New Zealand chase target of 304 in 48.4 overs set by South Africa while batting first in 2nd Match of the Tri Series. It was a record chase for New Zealand in ODIs against South Africa. New Zealand won the match by 4 wickets.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. South Africa scored 304 after losing 6 wickets in 50 overs. Record Breaking Knock of 150(148) by debutant Matthew Breetzke and 64(60) run knock of Mulder and contribution of 41 odd runs by Smith helped South Africa to set a descent target.
New Zealand started decently, but after partnership of 50 runs, Will Young got out after scoring 19 runs. Kane Williamson and Devon Conway built a partnership of 187 runs. Kane Williamson scored 133 runs in 113 balls and Devon Conway scored 97 runs in 107 balls. After the fall of Devon Conway(97), Daryl Mitchel(10) and a duck for Tom Latham, Kane Williamson built a unbeaten partnership of 57 runs with Glenn Phillips. Glenn Phillips scored 28 runs in 32 balls. Kane Williamson finished the match with a four off Senuran Muthusamy on 4th ball of 49th over.
The match was played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, with both teams having a history of competitive encounters throughout the ODI history, where the South Africa had previously dominated the New Zealand. New Zealand had won the toss and opt to bowl.
