Frank Dimuth Madushanka Karnunaratne, Sri Lankan Opener is all set to retire after an illustrious career after playing his 100th Test. Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Karunaratne has announced his retirement from Test cricket. He will play his 100th and final Test match against Australia in Galle, starting February 6, 2025.

He made his Test debut at the same venue in 2012 against New Zealand. Over his career, he has scored 7,172 runs in 99 matches, including 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries. He has also captained the Sri Lankan Test team and is recognized as one of the country's most reliable opening batsmen.

This final match will mark a significant milestone:

He will become the seventh Sri Lankan cricketer to achieve 100 Test appearances.

Under his leadership, Sri Lanka became the first Asian team to win a Test series in South Africa. In February 2019, they secured a 2-0 series victory against the Proteas.

Karunaratne's exceptional performances in 2018, 2021, and 2023 earned him a spot in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year.
